Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the BlackBox mobile applications, website, and related services (the "Service"), provided by George Barbour, a sole trader based in Scotland, United Kingdom, trading as "BlackBox" ("we", "us"). By installing or using the Service you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By using the Service you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.
2. Your account
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, including keeping your Google sign-in secure. Notify us promptly at blackboxsupport@ghillie.xyz if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Free and paid plans
The Service offers a free plan with limited features and a paid "Pro" subscription. Current prices and plan details are shown at /pricing. We may change prices for new subscriptions or renewals; existing subscribers will be notified of price changes at least 30 days before they take effect.
4. Free trial
If we offer you a free trial, you must enter a payment method to start it. We will automatically charge your payment method at the end of the trial unless you cancel before the trial ends. You can cancel any time from Settings → Manage subscription.
5. Billing and cancellation
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) until cancelled.
- You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
- We do not provide refunds for partial periods, except where required by law (UK consumer rights for digital content where applicable).
- If a payment fails, we may suspend Pro features until the issue is resolved.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of the vehicle, trip, and other data you put into the Service. You grant us a limited licence to host, store, and process that data solely to provide the Service to you. You can export your data at any time from the app.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to: reverse-engineer or attempt to extract source code beyond what local law permits; resell access to the Service; use it to harass, defame, or violate the rights of others; circumvent rate limits or abuse protections; or use it for any unlawful purpose.
8. Third-party services
The Service uses third-party APIs (Google sign-in, Stripe billing, DVLA & MOT vehicle lookup, mapping providers). We are not responsible for outages or changes to those services. Their terms apply to your use of those features.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Cost and fuel-efficiency calculations are estimates based on data you enter and are not financial or engineering advice. We do not guarantee accuracy of third-party data (DVLA, MOT, mapping).
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of the Service is limited to the greater of (a) £100 or (b) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of data, lost profits, or vehicle-related decisions you make based on the Service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK law (e.g. for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
11. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose a risk to the Service.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Disputes will be brought before the courts of Scotland, subject to any non-waivable consumer rights you have where you live (for example, EU consumers retain the right to bring proceedings in their country of residence under applicable EU consumer regulations).
